Hate Speech-Self Assessment Tool for Students

Are you between 14 and 19 years old? Then, we would like to ask you some questions about your experiences online.

Do you know what hate speech is? Do you know how to recognize hate speech online? What does the right to free speech mean to you? Have you been a witness or a victim of hate speech? Do you know where to seek help and how to respond to online hatred?

The LEAD-Online project strives to help young people understand better what is hate speech online, how to recognize and counter it. But first, we want to hear about your opinions and experiences with hate speech.

Hate Speech-Self Assessment Tool for Educators/Media/NGOs

The project LEAD-Online aims to strengthen critical thinking and digital & media literacy skills in  young people, teachers, media and social media activists in 7 countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Italy, Greece, Romania), as a way to combat hate speech online and empower them to become agents of change. It aims to open up spaces for discussion of hate speech, promoting an upstander attitude and behaviour that respect human rights and values.

With this Hate Speech-Self Assessment Tool we invite you to reflect upon and assess your level of awareness of hate speech online; how to recognize hateful content; who are the victims and perpetrators; what is the impact of online hatred on people; do you know how to respond to hateful content.

Project

The project LEAD-Online addresses the need to strengthen critical thinking and digital & media literacy skills in young people, as causally linked to the low levels of reporting of and the “normalization” of hate speech online (HSO). The project empowers youth, teachers, media and social media activists in 7 countries (AT, BG, CY, HR, IT, EL, RO).
